Hi effurryone…today I’m gonna tell you about an awesome group – LABMED.
This is a group very near and dear to our hearts – JG worked with LABMED for a number of years assisting with fundraising and administrative chores, and it remains her “special” charity. LABMED is different in that they don’t rescue or re-home dogs in need, but assist in paying for medical expenses necessary for the needy dogs to get ready to find their new furever homes.
Here’s a brief description of LABMED:
LABMED was founded to provide emergency monies to offset expenses incurred in the medical treatment of abandoned and/or injured Labrador Retrievers in need of rescue.
LABMED is a non-profit rescue organization created and run over the Internet. It was formed in August 1996 after a member of the Labrador Retriever (Labrador-L) mailing list made a request to the list for donations to help a badly injured rescue Lab. Within just one week, the decision-making committee was organized and an application, by-laws and funding guidelines were written, a testament to the speed of Internet communication.
In 2010 LABMED funded a total of 55 dogs spending $19,800. Due to the economy we are receiving more applications for higher amounts of money. We were only able to partially fund every application that we approved, usually for less than half of what was requested. Until a couple of years ago we were usually able to fully fund applications that were approved.
Today is a big day at LABMED…it’s their annual Three Scoops of Vanilla fundraiser. Three Scoops of Vanilla is hosting an on-line fund-raising party for LABMED on 11/16/12 which is TODAY. They’ll be giving a percentage of any jewelry sold to LABMED as their charity of the day. Christmas shopping is starting now so do some of yours there! Three Scoops Of Vanilla.
