WORDLESS WEDNESDAY – HIKE AT GATOR CREEK RESERVE

This week my Doggie Social Club hike was at the Gator Creek Reserve . Gator Creek starts in the nearby Green Swamp, an area often called The Liquid Heart of Florida.

About Gizmo

Hi! I'm Gizmo...a handsome terrier-about-town with a distinct point of view. I will write about whatever interesting things come across my desk, appear on my twitter feed @GizmoGeodog, or meet me out on the geotrails. I love to geocache cause it takes me to all the wild places & I can get back to being a real dog. I care about all my brofurs & sisfurs who haven't found their own forever homes yet, & raise funds to help them whenever I can. My girl brought me home from the shelter & together we explore our world. I do my best to make her smile, & she does her best for me. We are a team.

Very nice pictures 🙂 Looks like fun.

  3. Kristine says:

This looks like such a nice spot to go hiking with your doggy friends. I’d love to join such a fun group in my area! Unfortunately most of them are all breed-specific and we have a mutt. So I’ll just have to live through your posts!

    • Gizmo says:

You should try starting a group…winter’s mom couldn’t find anything so she started one on meetup.com and put some signs up in local doggie stores…that’s how we all got together…i[‘m sure there’s other doggies near you that want to play…and you can come with us if you’re ever in Florida! *snoogles*

  4. We are going to come and hike with you. it’s getting cold here. That butterfly was awesome.

    • Gizmo says:

Roxy you are welcome to join us anytime…Just let me know when you’re coming through Central Florida…we’d love to have you! *snoogles* (yes, i love those Zebra longwings too..it’s been a banner year for them and we’ve had them in our garden for the first time too)

  5. Clowie says:

It looks really pretty there! But the name implies there may be alligators, are there?

    • Gizmo says:

Hiya Clowie! The thing about Florida is that there are alligators in just about every body of fresh water in the state. My dad has found them in the pool at his development, I’ve seen them on golf course water hazards, and even in a fish pond on the grounds of a hospital. It may be hard to believe but you kind of come to expect them and learn to ignore them. BUT Gator Creek Reserve is actually pretty dry…there’s usually only water in the creek during rainy season (Summer) and right now, as you can see, it’s pretty darn dry…so no gators there now…Safe for Pups! *snoogles*

      • Interesting! I was going to ask the same thing about the gators!
Great pics. We love to hike with our pup. That butterfly is gorgeous! Happy WW!

      • Gizmo says:

hiking with dogs is the best…you should try geocaching with dogs…we recommend it! gators only worry me when i’m in a kayak and the gator next to me is longer than my boat! but i’ve never had one approach or be aggressive *snoogles*

  6. That looks SO fun! We’ll have to stop up there sometime and visit your social club!

  7. goldenwoofs says:

Woof! Woof! Great place to hike. Who is that handsome Golden. LOVE the butterfly. Happy Wednesday. Lots of Golden Woofs, Sugar

    • Gizmo says:

Hiya sugar! That boy is Finn…he was rescued in Mississippi and has been with his new mom about 4 weeks now…He is a total sweetheart, but still bonding, so he does stay on leash for now at least…We like him a lot!*snoogles*

  8. Loy says:

Hey Gizmo! Beautiful place to stretch your puppy legs and fill your puppy nose with delightful scents! I really liked the butterfly, just gorgeous!

  9. That walk looks like lots of fun, and so pretty, too. All our butterflies are gone until spring!

  10. Becki says:

    Mollie and Alfie

    • Gizmo says:

Hi there Mollie & Alfie! thanks for stopping in today…i always love our hikes…i have the most fun out on the trails. That white dog is Winter who is a shepherd/wolf cross…she is a baby girl and really fun to play with. What time is the bacon ready? I’ll be there:) *snoogles*

  16. That looks like a really nice place to hike! My family owns a plant nursery where I live and one of their friends has built a butterfly house on the property. She has some zebra longwings in there! I only know that because my daughter has all the butterfly names memorized lol.

  17. maxwellnfaraday says:

Maxwell: Gizmo, dude! You see any gators out there? Allie: *shudder* I’ll take squirrels, thank you very much!

    • Gizmo says:

None out there, but the lake across the street from my house has gators 😉 Gators everywhere here in Florida…that’s why I don’t swim BOL! *snoogles*

  18. Very cool! And it’s such a great time to be outside!

    Christie from lifewithbeagle.com

  19. Hey Giz, Jetty here. Hi Miss JG.

Another beautiful hike… thanks for showing off our state as more than just beaches. 🙂 Thanks for sharing about Finn. May we ask what he’s wearing?

    • Gizmo says:

The best hikes are nowhere near the beach…so many hidden treasures in this state…Finn is wearing a very spiffy backpack…super lightwieght, ventilated (good for Florida) and comes with two water bladders that he carries himself…Jeanethe his mom said it cost about $100…I can find out the maker for you

  20. Lynda Fisher says:

The trail looks like fun especially the creek. Weren’t the pups afraid of alligators?

    • Gizmo says:

Stangely, no gators in Gator Creek…and we are all super careful about taking the pups near any water where they might be in danger…Thanks for stopping by!

  21. Looks like you have a great time!

  22. acd6pack says:

  24. I didn’t know there was such a thing as a State butterfly. Very cool.

  25. A Husky Life says:

Beautiful pictures! Looks like a great place to hike.

  26. Cotton says:

Those pictures are amazing, guys! Looks like you’ll had a fun hike?
    Cotton

  27. Are there gators in that creek! Looks like a paw-some place to wag around, as long as there are no gators! Have a wagging day.
    Maggie

  28. Garth Riley says:

Looks like a great place to hike, but you must be very brave to hike in a place called “Gator Creek”!

    your pal,
    Garth

  29. nadbugs says:

Wowzers. What a gorgeous place! I long for FL, I love FL. With you, and now one of my fave blogs, Feygirl at Serenity Spell, at least I can get a taste — Thank you! Maybe you’ll love Feygirl’s blog. I totally do. Check her out. http://serenityspell.com/

    • Gizmo says:

Thank you so much for your kind words…There is so much beauty here in Florida and I love to show people those hidden places, away from the beach, that some of us really appreciate And I have visited your friend Feygirl’s blog and agree…It’s so worth reading Thanks for the tip

  30. Love the photos! We can’t wait till the weather gets warmer and calmer here (right now it’s almost 50 degrees, but the wind is a constant 15-20mph). Bender and Pepper have some serious cabin fever right now and really wanna visit some new parks!
