A KITCHEN SINKFUL OF HAPPY – Behind the Paw #2

Today I’m going to catch up on Thank You’s  I owe for gifts of time and technical expertise, gratitude for blog awards bestowed and prizes we’ve won…It’s been a very busy week in all those areas and it’s time I got it all into (virtual) print.

The look of this blog has changed completely and for that I owe huge thanks to Alasandra of Alasandra, The Cats & Dogs .  Alasandra gave of her time and talent to create the new header for this blog. She was patient as I dithered, and came up with something I love. Thank you Alasandra!

Next I have to give a shout out to our pals Oz and Gina of Oz the Terrier , who provided great suggestions for cleaning up the overall look, adding a background and even figured out the custom colors that matched. Thank you Oz & Gina!

Over on the sidebar you’ll find my OneWord2013 button. I first read about the OneWord project on The Doglady’s Den and it caught my imagination. I followed the link over to the wonderful Melanie of Only A Breath.  Melanie has offered to create unique blog buttons illustrating the word you choose as your OneWord for 2013.  The word you choose represents what will inspire you, challenge you and provide focus for the year. I chose ‘Joy’ as I think pure joy has been in short supply around here…I need to let loose, look around and remember how to find my joy in everyday life. I contacted Melanie and within minutes she responded with my finished button. I have it printed out and posted over my desk, on the fridge & tucked into my wallet…I even “sing” it to Gizmo as we wander along on our morning walks.  The “string of pearls” design shows the progression from baby steps at the start of the year to larger changes as the year goes on…Thank you Melanie!

Monday was like Christmas around here…Gizmo had four packages delivered, 3 with  cool prizes he’d won from some great blog contests and one was something special for both of us from our great twitter pal @NancyCakeFace and her mom Carolyn that we won at a recent #nipclub twitter pawty. Here’s a shot of all the swag:

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

On the left, from sweet Nancy,  is a  wonderful pink leopard print Bone Dry Dog Drying Towel for Gizmo and a cool coffee mug for mom reading “Shoes, Chocolates, Dogs. You can never have too many!” Isn’t that the truth! I promised Gizmo I wouldn’t embarrass him with a “bath photo” , but the towel is large and soft and really does do a great job. You do not want to see what I look like first thing in the morning when I’m drinking coffee from the mug, I promise Winking smile

The orange ball is a Bionic Ball from Bionic Play Company. Gizmo won this kewl toy from buddy Chazz the Dog at his blog Adopted Mom To Chazz . it’s a stuffer toy and chew toy combined and Gizmo has enjoyed figuring it out.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

In the middle is the fabulous Pet JetSetter bag that I was so lucky to win from Carol & the Fidose of Reality online magazine .  I can’t tell you how much I love this bag…Gizmo and I travel a bit and his “belongings” usually end up under the front seat or in my bag or in the “wayback” but never in one place or where I need them.  The Pet Jetsetter is a way to keep both of us organized…Labeled pockets for all his “stuff” like bowls, water bottle & treats (it even comes with 2 perfect sized stainless bowls).  Inside there’s plenty of room for that Bone Dry Towel, a weekend’s worth of food, a couple of stuffies, an extra lead & collar, and anything else Gizmo might find essential. The folks at Pet Jetsetter were kind enough to monogram the bag for Gizmo so he knows it’s his. I’ve  ‘customized’ it by clipping on a container of doggie “pickup” bags. Right now all I have to do is toss in some food, fill the water bottle and we’re ready to hit the road.

And our last package came from Flea of Dog Treat Web, the Jones Natural Chews blog. Flea read and reviewed the book Rin Tin Tin The Life & Legend. Her enthusiastic review, coupled with the fact that I loved The Orchid Thief by the same author, Susan Orlean, made me want to read the book and I was very pleased to win it. I’ve already started reading and will post my own review when I’ve finished, and maybe even pass my copy on to the next reader.

This has also been a big week for awards…there has been so much blogger love around here Gizmo & I are positively glowing. Mom even created a special Awards page here on my blog to show them all off.

Our friends Princess Zena from the Princess Tails and The Kirbster from Kirby’s Dawg Blog have both chosen us to receive  the Very Inspiring Blogger Award.

very-inspiring-blogger-award

Here are the Rules of Acceptance:

1] Link back to the person who nominated you

2] Post the award image on your page

3] Tell seven random fact about yourself

4] Nominate fifteen other blogs

———>   #’s 1 & 2 are done…here’s #3

1. In the geocaching community I’m known as LittleGizmo

2. I was born in Bartow, FL.

3. My original name was “Lance” (really? Lance?)

4. I’m such good friends with my mail lady Pamela that she gave me a Christmas present.

5. I don’t like to swim, but I’ll chase the ducks in the lake even if it means getting wet

6. Mom lets me sleep anywhere I want…I OWN this house

7. I like to do pushups to impress the ladies. That’s my girl Sparky (in my dreams) and her mom Terisa in the video…you can hear my mom talking in the background.

Gizmo does pushups for his girl Sparky

Now for #4…and this is the tricky one cause it seems like the gauntlet has been thrown down to make the nomination in a clever graphic form…Anyone who reads this blog should know that I am graphically challenged, but I’ve tried….Best of luck to my nominees!

We received our 1st 2012 Blog of the Year star last week and this week we added our 2nd and 3rd stars thanks to good friends Gina and Oz of Oz the Terrier and Ann of Pawsitively Pets.   This was a very exciting way to end the year and hope that in 2013 our blog  lives up to and exceeds all expectations© Blog of the Year Award

I’m not nominating anyone here, as 2012 is gone, but I’m sure there’ll be opportunity to recognize the worthy in 2013.

And finally I’ve got to thanks both Hannah of Animal Tails and Ann of Pawsitively Pets  for nominating us for the Liebster Award.

Liebster1

This is a new award for us and it does have a number of tasks associated with it…

First, I have to tell you 11 things about me. Then, I must answer the 11 questions asked by Pawsitively Pets. And lastly, I need to ask the blogger(s) that I nominate 11 new questions which they will need to answer… am I up to this?

Well, Gizmo listed 7 things about himself earlier, so I’ll just add 4 more about me to bring our total to 11:

8. I once ran a dive shop on Christiansted wharf in St. Croix, U.S.V.I.

9. When I was in college I drove a taxicab in New York City

10. My favorite color is black

11. I love to take my Jeep Liberty 4-wheeling in Ocala National Forest

Here’s the questions Ann has asked me, along with my answers:
Why did you start blogging? For fun and to keep talking to the folks I’d met on twitter

What’s your favorite animal? dogs, hands down no contest

What was your favorite toy as a kid? my treehouse for reading and my bike

Cats or Dogs? need you ask?

Would you rather eat a bug or sky dive? bugs! there’s no reason on earth to jump out of a perfectly good airplane

If you had a magic lamp with a genie in it, what 3 things would you wish for? unlimited free time; the ability to travel everywhere; a house on a tropical beach and the means to get there

If you could pick any animal to be, which one would you choose? one of my  dogs – they have a good life

How often do you cut your hair? rarely

What’s the last movie you saw that made you cry? The Music Never Stopped…wonderful, touching film & I recommend it

What’s your favorite board game? scrabble

How did you think of your blog title? I love alliteration…I had the Terrier part and just ran words through my head till I hit on one that sounded good to me & I still like it

Now for my nominee…I’m only nominating one blog for this award…it’s a blog that I’ve only recently discovered, and I’m nominating it because I really want to read this bloggers answers…

My nominee is theLady Georgia Little Pea Ratatouille  whose blog Little Dogs on Long Leashes is an absolute delight…If you haven’t met Georgia yet I urge you to do so.

Here are the questions I’ve come up with for Georgia and her folks to answer:

  1. What major obstacle are you most proud of overcoming?
  2. If you had to choose between 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s music for the rest of your life, which era would you choose and why?
  3. What are you looking forward to the most in 2013?
  4. What do you wear to sleep in?
  5. What genre would a movie about your life be in? And who is playing you?
  6. Are you a collector? If so, what do you collect?
  7. Do you dance in your car? In the shower? What song really gets shaking your tail?
  8. If you owned a boat, what would you name it?
  9. If you could choose to stay a certain age forever, what age would it be
  10. What is the strangest talent you have?
  11. If you could move anywhere on earth, where would you live?

If you’ve made it this far, you’ve learned a lot about us and realize that we are really grateful for all the kind words and support we’ve received.

Here’s today’s 30/30 Ticker (can’t forget that)

About Gizmo

Hi! I'm Gizmo...a handsome terrier-about-town with a distinct point of view. I will write about whatever interesting things come across my desk, appear on my twitter feed @GizmoGeodog, or meet me out on the geotrails. I love to geocache cause it takes me to all the wild places & I can get back to being a real dog. I care about all my brofurs & sisfurs who haven't found their own forever homes yet, & raise funds to help them whenever I can. My girl brought me home from the shelter & together we explore our world. I do my best to make her smile, & she does her best for me. We are a team.

    • Gizmo says:

Yes it has been quite a week…we’ll be looking to read your answers 🙂 I told mom it wud be right to do giveaway of book after we finish reading it so we think of fun contest

  3. catchatcaren says:

you sure got a TON of awards and wonderful prezzies!! The header and background of your blog look great!!! Woooooo hoooooo! Barks and licks and love Dakota

    • Gizmo says:

Thanks Dakota! I think the new look is so much more “me” and shows better my love of the outdoors…We were overwhelmed with all the kind awards and support and hope that everyone knows how much it’s appreciated

  4. Holy cats! What a post! Congratulations on all that SWAG and all those awards! Love your new blog look. Looks like 2013 is joyful in a big way! 🙂

    • Gizmo says:

It was kind of a marathon post wasn’t it? I had so many things to cover and just decided to get it all out there…It took a LONG time to write this one and the time was well-spent I think…Glad you like the remodeling…it’s so much fresher now 🙂

  5. Dear Lance, I’m never going to let you forget your old name BOL.

THANK YOU for thinking of us! I believe The Typist is having a panic attack of some kind right now. Eleven questions? ELEVEN? !!! This is going to take a very long while, so please don’t hold your breath. In fact, she wants me to inform you that she still hasn’t done anything about pressies she got in January of last year, as in 2012. Yup. She’s a bit slow that way. But I’m sure there’s as good a chance she’ll answer your questions as jumping out of a perfectly good airplane.

By the way, we know what geocache-ing is! It sounds like great fun. If we add that to 4-wheeling, driving a cab in NYC, and diving…. we now think you must be an Amazon of some kind. Are we right?

This is becoming a novel. Sorry. Thank you again for thinking of us and we WILL try, promise! 😀 X

    • Gizmo says:

Georgia it’s OK if your Typist takes furever, we just wanted to let you know how delighted we were to find your blog and to say “Yes, we will be your friends” and that I’m a little dog who has big dog pals and we have big dawgie fun when we hike together …Your comment here alone displays the charm and humor that we love about your blog. And just fur you, you can call me Lance *snoogles* from your new pal Gizmo

  6. HAPPY FRIDAY! Congrats on all the PAWsome swag – the towel, cup and travel bag look especially cool. Thanks for the shout out video, Lance Romance! Have a PAWsome day!

  7. Congratulations, Gizmo!!!… and yay! I found my name on the graphic – what a wonder-wonderful idea!!!! I agree: shoes&chocolate&dogs… you can never have too many – that’s so true!!! Thank you for nominating me and for sharing so much things about you with me (and my mom this curious magpie)….have a wonderful friday!!!

    • Gizmo says:

It was fun coming up with 11 new things to tell everyone about us…We know our blogger pals in one way, but there’s so many other things about each of us and it’s nice to share some of that…looking forward to reading your answers 🙂

  8. Holy Moly, Gizmo (or should I say “Lance” – what were you before meeting your mom, a Backstreet Boy?!?)!! Your kitchen sink is so full that it spilleth over onto everyone’s kitchen floor!! BOL

First, congratulations on your bazillion awards! You do deserve them!! We love your blog! We now know some more interesting things about you and your mom. *whispers* I get to sleep anywhere I want to, too! *high paws*

Next, THANK YOU for nominating me and my blog for the Very Inspiring Blogger Award. *blushes and hides face* I am very touched and will do my bestest to write an interesting (and inspiring) post about my award.

Last, congratulations to Lady Georgia Little Pea Ratatouille on receiving the ginormous Liebster Award. I love the questions you asked and cannot wait to read their answers!!

    Have a great weekend, buddy!!
    Oz

    • Gizmo says:

Backstreet Boy? Wait’ll I get you at the dog park pal…BOL! Know that Mom & I find your poetry most inspiring and deserving of an award from us…we’re not that creative like you…And we do hope that Georgia’s typist gets to the questions one day soon cause I think the answers would be lots of fun Have a *tailwaggin’* weekend!

  9. Hey Gizmo, durr we missed it. Thank you so much. We put it into todays’ post and on our awards page. Wow thanks for making this a fangtastic Friday,
    Best wishes Molly

    • Gizmo says:

No worries Molly…Mom’s pikshure is a little hard to read…she not great artist iz she BOL! You is deserving as you inspire us to have more fun efurry day

  10. Reuben says:

well thank yous very much Gizmo, finally I has founded your dogblog and I is so glad that I did! (I has had my mama follow it on networked blogs). Congrats on your awardings and I is proud to receive the award from yous too 🙂

    love,
    Reuben

    • Gizmo says:

Reuben you is one of the funniest happiest dawgs we know and you deserve an award for inspiring us to see the fun and silliness all around us

  11. Kristine says:

Wow, that was quite a follow up! Congratulations on all your awards and cool gifts. You’ve got a lot going on these days!

The push-ups were hysterial! Sparky looked very impressed. 😉

Thanks for your sweet mention! I don’t know if I am up for such a challenge!

    • Gizmo says:

There was a lot to catch up on and I feel better now that it’s all out there 🙂 and I think I let folks know a little more about us, which is nice…Gizmo does his “pushups” for all the girls…so far it hasn’t worked, but he keeps trying… And I trust you are up to any challenge…your patience and commitment to Shiva is inspiring…you meet her challenges with love and together you work through them

  12. FleaByte says:

Look at all your cool STUFF! That towel looks amazing. Does it really work better than a standard bath towel? I’m moving to bar soap for bathing my dogs. I think I need to head over and find one of those cool towels to help with the transition. 😉

I LOVE your word for the year! Mine was going to be Duck, but my Hunny and bestie guilted me out of that word – it’s so multifunctional! – and I’ve chosen purpose. Not nearly as exciting. 😦 I love the strand of pearls concept associated with the word.

    • Gizmo says:

It’s been a bountiful week for sure 🙂 The towel does work well…better than a standard bath towel and better than the old microfibre one I was using…that one had no nap to it and was smaller…this one is nice and big and fluffier and soaks up water well…I have been using a bar soap made for dogs by a local soapmaker and love it…lathers well and rinses really clean with no residue…it’s got lavender, tea tree and something else and it lasts a long time…”Duck”? now that’s funny…”Purpose” is good though…it can help you define your goals i would think

  13. rottrover says:

Hey Giz! It was really fun to get to know you better!

    -Bart and Ruby

  14. Hey Giz, Jetty here. Hi Miss JG.

OMD, that was a super cool, jam packed post! Congrats on all the awards and your diligence (VBP) in following the rules with creativity. We enter contests and have yet to win anything, so, super congrats on your haul! We think the travel bag is perfect for you as is the towel and coffee mug of course. We know Miss JG will enjoy the book.

You broke your graphically challenged (if that was even true…) block… we loved your presentation.

How great that you received help to freshen up your page. We like the colors and the modern, uplifting look. 🙂

    • Gizmo says:

Hiya Jetty pal…Yep that really was the kitchen sink but Momz figured she had so many folks to thank and acknowledge she’d try and put them together and make it fun…She sez she never wins anything so Iz the lucky charm for her…she always enters in my name 😉 We do hope you all are doing well and dat you iz feeling better my furriend…any news on when da cone comes off? Big *weekendsnoogles* fur you all

  15. Woof! Woof! We do love your new blog header. If you decide to have your own WP domain we can help you in re-designing your blog. Oh my mom downloaded the Rin Tin book (it was free on kindle) she can’t wait to read it too. enjoy your goodies and Happy Friday. Lots of Golden Woofs, Sugar

    • Gizmo says:

Sugar that is one offer Momz will take you up on…she is not at all proud about asking fur help and iz very serious about doing the domain in the next month or so…Momz did start da book and likes it…we should talk about it together when they finish reading

  16. You are most welcome for the header, I am so glad you like it. Today has been full of things to make me smile. First the sun came out then I was reunited with Tuiren and now your kind words. :>)

  17. Wow – what a follow up! Congratulations on all your presents and awards! (We’re quite jealous of that travel bag. 🙂

I loved your answers to all the awards questions – gave us a chance to learn a little more about you. Apparently you have a terrific sense of humor. (“No reason to jump out of a perfectly good plane.” Ha! We agree!)

Thanks for joining the follow up hop. What a week it was. I hope you have a fabulous weekend.

    • Gizmo says:

  20. maxwellnfaraday says:

    Have a great weekend!!

    • Gizmo says:

gosh Jodi that’s a tough question…two words come to mind…inspiration and perseverance…not really sure why so I hope if I’m totally off base they don’t offend…i really like FUF…gives me a chance to get caught up on things

  25. Hey Gizmo! Lovely to meet you. I hopped over here from the blog hop on Two Little Cavaliers blog. You’re super handsome. Hope you have a super Saturday. xx
